Discord’s popular music bot decides to end service due to Google exclusion

Groovy , a popular music bot that operates on a Discord server and has secured 250 million users, has terminated its service on August 30, 2021 after receiving a notice from Google for exclusion. Groovy is a popular music bot used to play music from YouTube, Spotify and Soundcloud on Discord, with over 16 million installed on Discord servers and an estimated 250 million users.

According to the developer, Google notified Groovy that it would be excluded because there was a violation of the terms of service, such as service change and commercial use, and requested the service to be terminated within 7 days. Accordingly, it has been decided to end on August 30, 2021. Groovy was offering a premium service for $5.99 per month.

Groovy used the YouTube API to extract music and bypass the frontend and ads. 98% of the tracks played were YouTube.

Meanwhile, Rhtym, a music bot installed on 20 million Discord servers and with an estimated 560 million users, is announcing that it has no plans to end its service. It did not say whether Google had received a notice or not. Related information can be found here.
