Facebook bans buying and selling protected ecosystems on marketplaces

Facebook, which is committed to sustainability and conservation of ecosystem land, has revised its policy to explicitly ban all land sales in protected areas to curb the sale of Amazon rainforest land on the Facebook Marketplace.

Ecosystem protected areas have been established for the protection of valuable biological habitats and ecosystems and are important lands to address global natural locations.

In response, Facebook revised its policy and added a ban on all land and real estate within the ecosystem. It also began an attempt to identify and block potential policy violations by matching the marketplace entry list with the database of international organizations’ protected areas.
