It turns out that Google makes it mandatory to display a privacy policy in its applications.
Google plans to introduce the safety section announced earlier this year in the first quarter of 2022. These guidelines were announced in advance to give app developers time to respond. The safety section design has not been decided yet, but several models are suggested for next year.
The safety section specifies how user data is used and accessed, and what data collection is required for the app to work. This information is displayed in every app in the Google Play Store, so users can know about it before installing.
But most importantly, all apps, whether official from Google or a third party, must provide a privacy policy from April 2022. Registration for safety section information begins in October and must be submitted by the second quarter of 2022.
If the safety section information is not registered, any new application or update application will be rejected by the developer. Also, non-compliant apps are marked as having no information. This distinguishes between apps that submitted information and apps that did not. Until now, privacy policy indications were limited to family apps.
Google’s goal is to make it clear how apps use user data while privacy and security become more important. Meanwhile, Apple has already mandated the display of its privacy policy on the App Store in 2018. Related information can be found here.
