Trump sues to unfreeze Twitter account

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit demanding account reinstatement, arguing that the Twitter account freeze violates the First Amendment and state law social media provisions. In July, he claimed that Twitter, Facebook, Google, and Google’s three companies and CEOs were making conservative claims and illegally blocking the media. The Florida Social Media Act is also being suspended because courts are likely to be violating the Freedom of the Press Act.

Trump said Twitter is the primary vehicle for discussion, wields a historically unprecedented amount of power and dominance in political discourse within the country, and is very dangerous for democratic open discussion.

Of course, the reason Trump was blocked from Twitter and other social media accounts was his own post. In addition, he spread criticism of political conflicts through his Twitter account during his tenure. As misinformation or racist information is common, the platform also had to put labels on each post to warn that the contents of the posts were false.

And the tipping point was the January 6 congressional riot caused by Trump supporters trying to stop Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, and Twitter, provisionally first 12 hours ahead of President Trump, who tweeted remarks inciting it and encouraging violence. Two days after the account was suspended, it was concluded that it was permanently frozen. In addition, after a riot, various services such as Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat also implemented a ban on Trump.

It is unknown whether the lawsuit will likely restore Trump’s account, but at the time of the permanent freeze, Trump had 88 million Twitter followers. Twitter did not comment on the lawsuit on the same day. Related information can be found here.
