Most GM vehicles also … OTA Update

General Motors has unveiled a new digital vehicle platform that allows users to update their software over-the-air (OTA) via wireless capabilities like smartphones.

The platform will be first installed in the Cadillac CT5 sedan of the year 2020 and will be applied to most GM vehicles by 2023.

Tesla has been using this software update system for several years. However, large-sized automobile manufacturers are delaying their introduction. According to GM, such digital vehicle platforms can handle up to 4.5TB per hour, five times as high as the current system.

According to GM, security is a top priority in this digital system. According to reports, GM will not use OTA updates on systems that are directly connected to safety, such as brakes. If the automobile industry and technology companies work together to develop automotive software, OTA update is likely to become an industry standard system.
