Four automakers, Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, and Honda, announced that they have agreed to a new emission standard developed in-house in California.
In the United States, the Trump administration has announced that the Trump administration will greatly ease the automobile emission regulations set by former President Obama, but 14 states, including California, oppose this and set their own emission standards.
The California Environment Agency’s CARB has approved new standards for the four preceding companies, adjusting to loosening current California emissions regulations as a condition of achieving this in 50 US states. Accordingly, the four automakers will urge consensus on new standards and encourage them to respond to one emission regulation across the industry. However, as the main vehicle model of each manufacturer may be different, such as focusing on eco-friendly and electric vehicles, it is expected to be seen whether or not this direction can be matched.
