Amazon has acquired a patent for an AR system that can be used by a postman. Amazon uses AR headsets to show delivery people an efficient route, as well as unmapped tips, such as the way to the entrance.
One of the keys to Amazon’s success in business is the introduction of a number of technologies into its logistics hubs in packaging and delivery systems. Although it is also developing a robot that automatically delivers luggage to the door, this patent data reveals that Amazon has in mind the use of augmented reality. The AR headset, devised by Amazon, shows carriers the best routes and parking lots. The delivery system using augmented reality was developed by Amazon software engineer (Robert Niewiadomski). In a patent document filed in 2016, he said that skilled deliverymen know the shortcut in the actual delivery area instead of the route provided by the navigation app. It is using augmented reality technology as a means to solve this problem.
Amazon’s AR system tracks the delivery route information by the server and matches it with past information from the actual route to inform you. Routes and information found by the delivery man are continuously added to the database. Things to be careful about when other couriers are working or shipping information are displayed on the AR based on this data. For example, you can mark things that don’t appear on the general map, such as watch out for a guard dog or the way to an apartment entrance.
It is not yet known whether Amazon will actually integrate such an AR system into its delivery system. Amazon did not disclose any specific plans for the AR system patent. Related information can be found here .
