Chinese smartphone maker Huawei announced its own open-source operating system, HarmonyOS, during the developer conference on the 9th (local time).

According to Huawei, Harmony OS is the first micro-kernel-based multipurpose operating system. It can be used in various devices such as smartphones and tablets, smart speakers, smart watches, wireless earphones, and cars. It is said that RAM size can range from kilobytes to gigabyte classes.

The ARK compiler that builds apps for Harmony OS supports Kotlin, Javascript, C and C++. In the future, it is said that compatibility with various apps such as HTML5, Linux, and Android apps can be expected.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu said that Harmony OS could always replace the Android operating system. However, it is said that Huawei smartphones currently use the Android operating system.
