Google Announces Open Source of Cardboard

Google has announced that it will open source technology related to Cardboard software.

Cardboard is a simple virtual reality headset made out of cardboard. If you use the app, you can easily enjoy virtual reality with your smartphone. Since the virtual reality headset itself has already been open sourced through the Cardboard Manufacturer Kit, anyone can make compatible goggles.

It is the app side that has become open source this time. It includes head tracking, lens distortion rendering, and input processing APIs, so developers can freely put them in their own apps. Thanks to open source, it is possible to apply it to cardboard without having to wait for Google support when a new smartphone display comes out. Google continues to contribute to the Cardboard Open Source project with new features including the Unity SDK package.

According to Google, cardboard has played an important role in convincing virtual reality through YouTube and Google Expeditions in education. Of course, the use time keeps decreasing, as well as cardboard, but consistent use is recognized in these fields. Related information can be found here .

I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
