Netflix released its business performance by region around the world. The report categorized the subscriber regions into four regions: the United States, Canada, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. In addition, the number of subscribers in the third quarter of this year in all regions was 158.33 million.
The highest number of subscribers were in the United States and Canada, with 61.11 million. Followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with 47.36 million. Europe, the Middle East, and Africa saw a significant increase of 140% from 19.7 million in the first quarter of 2017. In other regions, the total number of subscribers is increasing from 15.43 million to 2938 million in Latin America, and from 4.66 million to 14.4 million in Asia-Pacific.
Of course, the number of subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, the largest markets, increased only 20% from 54.58 million in the first quarter of 2017, slowing growth. However, the recent income per subscriber was $12.36, the highest among the four regions. In the region, third-quarter earnings were close to $7.4 billion. However, the number of US and Canadian subscribers declined in the second quarter. In addition, competition in the US and Canada is expected to intensify further as competitive services such as Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, and HBO Max are increasing.
For this reason, Netflix is also focusing on attracting subscribers from other regions, such as introducing affordable mobile-only services in India and Malaysia. Related information can be found here .
