Intel Introduces Single GPU Board DG1

The DG1 is a single GPU board announced by Intel during CES 2020. Until now, Intel has only provided CPU integrated graphics. This is the first time Intel has released a single graphics card since the Intel 740 (Intel 740) released 10 years ago.

The DG1 is equipped with the next-generation GPU architecture, Xe. However, according to Intel’s explanation, the DG1 does not provide performance to compete with two GPU competitors. It is not a product that can beat Nvidia or AMD, and there are no general release plans. DG1 is a next-generation Intel integrated graphics packaged in a PCI Express interface graphics card, and will be released for developers in the first quarter of 2020.

Intel is focusing on GPUs recently. The 11th-generation Intel Graphics on Ice Lake-generation Intel CPUs are showing significant performance gains. In addition, the Xe chip, a next-generation GPU architecture, is also planning to release a single graphics card. Xe is divided into three levels: Xe LP is for low-power gaming, Xe HP is for high-performance PCs and workstations such as video editing, and Xe HPC is optimized for large-scale computing such as cloud and data center.

Lisa Pierce, vice president of Intel Graphics and Software Architecture, explains that Xe is composed of a scalable architecture, and that it is capable of responding to applications that require high performance, such as mobile and deep learning applications in general design. DG1 is a product that provides Xe chips to developers and helps them get the most out of key software performance.

In the second half of this year, Intel announced that it will integrate Xe into Tiger Lake generation CPUs using 10nm manufacturing processes and provide twice the graphics performance of Ice Lake generation. It is said that CPU performance will also improve by double digits, which will greatly improve processing such as AI. Intel showed such great confidence, but did not provide specific comparisons or performance data for performance. Related information can be found here .
