Lime declares withdrawal of 10 cities, focus on monetization

Lime, an electric scooter company, fired 100 people, or 14% of its employees, and withdrew from more than 10 cities that are providing services, according to an official blog. Founder and CEO Brad Bao said it was a necessary tool for economic self-sufficiency. “It has been serving 120 cities, but there were some slower deployments.”

In addition to the US Atlanta and Phoenix, San Diego and San Antonio, the service withdrawal areas include Linz, Colombia, Bogota, Colombia, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Montevideo, Uruguay, Lima Peru, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil. He said there was a possibility of a resurgence in the future, but at this stage, he announced that he would withdraw from cities not only in the United States but also in other regions.

Lime emphasized that Lime will be the first to make profits as a next-generation transportation company with an economic independence structure aimed at 2020. Lime’s rival Bolt also withdrew from Florida, USA. Volt did not directly disclose details of the city withdrawal, but if you check it through the Volt app, it is said that it is withdrawing outside South Florida and the number of scooters has also decreased significantly.

Another company Lyft also announced its withdrawal from six cities in the United States in November last year. It continues to invest in scooter conditions, but explains that the withdrawal is necessary to allocate resources to larger opportunities in smaller markets. The electric-sharing scooter industry seems to be in the next phase, and attention is focused on how the outcome of this move will appear in the 2020 settlement.
