Icelandic singer Björk has attempted to fuse music with technology such as iPad applications and virtual reality. She is trying to create music that will flow in the lobby of the Sister City Hotel in New York, USA. In addition to the samples of The Hamrahlid Choir, this experiment is to create music in real time by using music pieces collected by Beyoke for 17 years, camera images installed on the rooftop, and Microsoft’s AI.
AI generates sound by reacting to parameters such as the shape and color of clouds, flock of birds and passing planes, and air pressure through rooftop camera images. Of course, weather changes also affect the sound. This is not the first time Sister City Hotel is conducting an artist experiment using Microsoft AI. In April of last year, ambient sound producer Juliana Berrick conducted an experiment on creating lobby music. In this second experiment, a world-class artist who is sensitive to technology is used to add power to the experiment. Related information can be found here .
