Google announced on January 14 (local time) that it would acquire Pointy. Pointy is a startup that provides technology to link local store inventory to online e-commerce channels. According to reports, Pointy, located in Ireland, is worth $160 million, which is expected to compete with huge online retailers such as Amazon and Wal-Mart through the acquisition of Google.
Google advocated that Pointy helped bring thousands of local retailers’ product inventory online. Pointy founders Mark Cummins and Charles Bibby also said they are looking forward to introducing local stores and products to a wider range.
The pointy structure is like this. First, the local retailer turns on a barcode scanner accessory or Pointy app. After this process, the store inventory is displayed in the Google section (See what’s in store). Google and Pointy are enabling many local stores in the United States and Ireland to be exposed in search results. Related information can be found here .
