Vodafone, a British mobile telecommunications company, has announced its withdrawal from the Libra Association, a group that runs Libra, a crypto asset founded by Facebook.
Vodafone plans to turn its own resources allocated to Libra to M-Pesa, a digital payment service that is successfully underway in Africa. To expand the service to six African continents in the future.
The announcement of Libra’s withdrawal was followed by PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard, but Vodafone did not completely sever relations with Libra with this withdrawal. Vodafone said that the current focus on Empesa is that the world’s poorest people are effectively using affordable financial services, but they are still watching Libra and do not rule out the possibility of cooperation in the future.
The Libra Association currently has more than 1,500 waiting companies, and some companies are scheduled to join from the second half of 2020, so some analysts are optimistic about leaving Vodafone. Of course, nonetheless, some point out that if the Libra Association aims to officially launch or spread, it is necessary to make efforts to prevent new withdrawal companies from appearing.
