Amazon will introduce 10,000 parcel EV rickshaws to the Indian market by 2025. Rixia is a short-distance means of transportation that mainly uses manpower in Southeast Asia, and is usually in the form of a tricycle. A person rides with a wheel on the back of a bicycle. Amazon’s product is an EV model.
If you watch the promotion video, you can see CEO Jeff Bezos appear in person and ride a rickshaw with a local Indian. The hashtag in the video (Climate Pledge) is that it will achieve 100% of renewable energy by 2030, announced in September of last year, and that carbon emissions will be zero in the entire business by 2040. Amazon aims for a sustainable society and, as an example, is carrying out such activities on a large scale in India.
From this year on, Amazon will launch this movement in major cities such as Delhi and Bangalore. In India, where emissions are high, such a contribution can be said to be meaningful. In addition, Amazon has ordered 100,000 EV vehicles for delivery from EV manufacturer Rivian, an investment destination. From this point, it can be seen that efforts are being made to zero carbon dioxide from transportation.
