The final candidate for the name of the new US Mars probe…

NASA has announced the final nominations for the new Mars rover under competition. NASA had successfully commissioned the first new Mars 2020 rover before Christmas 2019. It was completely digested and decided that the next driving test was not necessary, but the official name has not been decided yet.

For this reason, a contest was held to apply more than 28,000 titles and short thesis for students from kindergarten to high school in the United States, narrowing it down to 155, and again to 9 nominations (Courage, Clarity, Endurance, Perseverance, Tenacity, Vision, Ingenuity, Promise, Fortitude). By clicking on these names, you can read an essay explaining why they used these names.

The winner of the title and the student who wrote the essay will be invited to Cape Canaveral in July 2020 to enjoy the moment the probe lands with NASA officials.

The new Mars rover has four scientific objectives: investigating habitability, investigating traces of past microbes, collecting rock and soil samples, and preparing for human exploration on Mars. NASA will choose a name and use the meaning and importance of the name to determine the future direction of the Mars exploration program. The voting deadline is January 28 and the announcement is March. Related information can be found here .
