Exterior wall paint that reduces building heat absorption

The Coolest White is a pure white exterior paint developed by Dutch design company UNStudio in collaboration with Swiss paint manufacturer Monopol Colors. The purpose is to alleviate the heat island phenomenon that raids the city every summer.

The heat island phenomenon refers to a phenomenon in which temperature rises due to waste heat or artificial structures that exist only in cities. The building absorbs solar heat and cools it because the indoor temperature rises. If you use cooling, there is an array in the air conditioner, and this arrangement leads to a vicious cycle in which the temperature rises again. Coolest White reflects sunlight more than other coatings, so it can reduce the effects of indoor temperature and waste heat.

There is an index called Total Solar Reflectance (TSR), which indicates the resistance of the coating material to the influence of sunlight. It is quantified from 1 to 100, but the higher it is, the more it reflects sunlight and reduces the amount of heat absorbed by the building.

The TSR value of regular white paint is between 70 and 75, but Coolist White is said to be above 80. Although it is a high number, you may feel that there is no significant difference if you compare only the whites. But compared to dark colors, the difference will be noticeable. If paint is used in urban units rather than copper units, a more significant effect can be expected. Related information can be found here .
