Skype supports background image customization. Video conferencing services such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams are gaining popularity as telecommuting increases due to the corona 19 impact, but among them, Zoom prevents a dirty house from being photographed with a background customization function. Accordingly, Microsoft Teams also began supporting this feature in early April. Skype has a function to blur the background, but it has not responded to the background image. However, this update has started support.
However, it is a bit tricky and not all client applications support it. The background image can be customized, but it can only be used with Skype version 8.59.0.77 or higher, which can be downloaded from the Skype official site. Skype also installs Skype for Windows 10 from the Microsoft store, but this service does not support background images.
It is possible that Microsoft’s response to Skype was behind the scenes and is trying to induce the use of Teams for video-housing. Even if Corona 19 subsides, the habit of working from home and video conferencing may take root. In this sense, it is a good thing to have more options. Related information can be found here .
