Keybase acquired ZOOM “to provide end-to-end encryption”

Video conferencing service Zoom has announced the acquisition of Keybase, which has end-to-end encryption technology.

Keybase is an American startup that has dealt with encryption services such as text chat and file sharing so far. With the acquisition of Keybase, Zoom said it would offer an end-to-end encrypted meeting mode for all paid accounts in the near future. Encryption can be set up by paid commercials when planning meetings, preventing unrelated user access and disabling the cloud storage of meeting details.

Zoom has emphasized that it has the strongest 256-bit AES protection for video conferencing, but it has been criticized for its use of the ECB mode, which is actually 128-bit and can guess encryption keys from data patterns. However, with the Corona 19 epidemic, as many people work from home and take classes at school, the number of Zoom users is increasing significantly. However, due to the problem of neglecting the security aspect design, Zoom is making efforts to strengthen security.

Therefore, end-to-end encryption with high communication confidentiality can be said to be the most necessary function of Zoom. However, it takes some time before the result of the keybase acquisition is reflected in Zoom. On the 22nd of May, Zum announced a detailed encryption design plan, gathering expert opinions, and integrating it into the final design. Related information can be found here .

I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
