Hyundai Motor Group announced the Electric Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) Ioniq 5.
The design takes a neat form based on a straight line that is different from the streamlined one. The biggest feature of Iconic 5 is the diagonal press line that runs through the side door panels. It looks like it was inherited from the concept EV 45 announced in 2019. The Iconic 5 is CUV, but it has a height that can be said to be a hatchback, and inside it is equipped with drive-by-wire and steer-by-wire systems through the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). In addition, the 800V battery system is built into the EV platform and on a flat floor, so that it is a relatively compact vehicle body and allows plenty of interior space.
The EV platform is designed to give you the freedom to choose between battery capacity and combinations such as RWD and AWD, and the Iconic 5 offers four motor combinations. First, the version with a 58kWh battery pack is equipped with a 125kW, 168hp motor with RWD option. In the AWD version, a 53kW, 71hp motor is added to the front, but the rear motor is 120kW with a 5kW lower power. This will be 173kW and 232 horsepower, but the total output can be reduced to 120kW and 161 horsepower.
The long-range version of the 72kW battery RWD features a 160kW, 215hp motor at the rear. AWD is equipped with a 70kW motor on the front and 155kW as a lower 5kW on the rear, supporting a total output of 225kW and 302 horsepower.
For the torque that affects the acceleration performance of the car, the rear motor is 350Nm, the front is 605Nm, such as 255Nm. The top-notch long-range AWD model features a 306 horsepower output and a zero-back 5.2 seconds specification, with a top speed of 185 km/h in all versions.
Charging can be done in 18 minutes from 10% to 80% of the battery using a 350kW DC quick charger. In addition, it can drive 100km with a 5-minute charge. It supports up to 3.6kW power supply and can charge other devices through the converter via the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) port. The Iconic 5 also supports a 400kW quick charger.
Looking at the interior, the minimalistic and neat design creates a futuristic atmosphere. It has a 12-inch digital meter cluster and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment. It also has a HUD system that provides information to the driver.
Universal Island is also a hallmark of the Iconic 5 interior. The center console slides back and forth along with the passenger seat, and the console moves enough to move from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat if you push the passenger seat back. It can be used like a console table because it is easy to access from the rear seats by moving the front seats.
Iconic 5 also features HDA (Highway Driving Assist) 2, an advanced driving assistance feature. It’s not like a Tesla Autopilot, but it offers Level 2 automatic driving on the highway. It provides lane-oriented assist, lane change assistance, adaptive cruise control based on navigation, and remote smart parking assist function operated by a smartphone.
Iconic 5 is a stylish CUV that can be popular with consumers looking for a convenient vehicle with a spacious interior space without being too large. Iconic 5 is expected to be released in select countries in the first half of 2021. Related information can be found here .
