iOS version Facebook app “Allow tracking to use for free… ”

In iOS 14.5, which began in late April, the Transparency of App Tracking ATT So, in order for an app to track users across other websites or applications, a structure is being introduced that requires explicit permission from the user. Specifically, prompting has been made mandatory before the app tracks the user.

In this structure, Facebook announced that it is implementing a strategy to persuade users that if they want to use the Facebook and its affiliate Instagram app for free, they must enable tracking. Prior to the launch of iOS 14.5 delivery, Facebook had been saying that in order to get a better advertising experience, you need to get user tracking permission. This new move can be said to be a similar attempt within the ATT framework.

Facebook revenue relies on the sale of ads for apps or services, primarily targeted ads tailored to a specific customer or customer base. However, in iOS 14.5, if a user rejects or unsubscribes from tracking, the data that will be the basis for Facebook to deliver customized advertisements to each user may be reduced.

Therefore, there were reports that Facebook campaigned against Apple by posting criticism of Apple in newspapers, explaining to some advertisers how ATT would affect targeted advertising.

Now Facebook and Instagram app updates are slowly rolling out for some time. On Twitter, there is a report that the Facebook app prompt has been updated, and a content that says Help keep Facebook free of charge has been added.

Facebook also acknowledges this as a fact through its official blog, and describes this prompt as an educational screen with the intention of helping people make informed decisions. The same message is also displayed in the Instagram app. To help you use Instagram for free, you are asking to enable tracking.

Facebook seems to think it doesn’t violate the App Store policy, explaining that the updated message is saying that Apple is allowed to provide additional context. In fact, Apple’s Accessing User Data is said to be able to display a custom message before an alert is displayed if it is essential to provide additional information, which seems seemingly fine.

There are two uses for user tracking data spoken by Facebook prompts to help businesses rely on other personalized ads or ads to reach customers. But rather, to help keep using Facebook for free, it can be seen as teaching the reality of paying for personal information instead of paying a monthly fee. If Facebook’s revenue is hit hard by the ATT, the Instagram app may also be paid for. Related information can be found here.
