Intel, newly established two business divisions, “accelerates innovation”

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced on June 22 that as a new business unit, the Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group, which focuses on accelerated computing, and the Software and Advanced Technology Group, which drives the software vision ) was established. In addition, it is said that the Data Platform Group may be reorganized and split into two business divisions.

Since Intel’s CEO was replaced from Bob Swann to Gelsinger in February 2021, Gelsinger has been promoting a variety of changes. In March, it announced IDM 2.0, a new strategy aimed at expanding foundry services, and announced that it would focus not only on its own chips but also on partner chips, and it was also revealed that they were planning to produce chips for the automotive industry.

Then, on June 22, CEO Gelsinger announced that Intel would reorganize and create a new business division. After rejoining Intel, Gelsinger said in a statement that he was impressed with the depth of talent and tremendous innovation across the company, but that he needed to change faster to make his ambitions come true. He also left Intel in 2009 and served as CEO of VMware, a cloud computing company from 2012 to 2021.

Intel’s new business areas are the two previously introduced. The Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics group focuses on high-performance computing and graphics, while the Software & Advanced Technology group promotes Intel’s unified vision for software.

Raja M. Koduri, Intel’s Vice President and Executioner of the GPU Strategy, will take over as Head of Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group Greg Lavender, who served as CTO and Senior Vice President at VMware, will take over as Head of Software & Advanced Technologies Group. It was announced that Lavender, who was at VMware at the same time as Gelsinger, would also serve as CTO and Senior Vice President at Intel.

Intel also reorganized its data platform group and split it into the Datacenter and AI Group and the Network and Edge Group. Sandra L. Rivera, the former chief human resources officer, will lead the Data Center & AI Group, which is in charge of chip Xeon for data centers, and the head of Network & Edge Group, which is in charge of network platforms and Internet of Things, is an electrician at Stanford University. Nick McKeown, a former professor of engineering and computer science, will take over.

Meanwhile, Navin Shenoy, who has served as the head of the Data Platform Group so far, will leave Intel on July 6, after 26 years of service. Gelsinger said he will sharpen Intel’s focus and execution and accelerate innovation by putting decades of expertise at the forefront of what matters most. Related information can be found here.
