The most difficult two-shot selfie on Mars in the world

NASA has released a two-shot selfie with the Mars helicopter Ingenuity taken by the Mars rover, Perseverance. However, it is said that this photo was not simply taken with two cars next to each other, but was finally completed by linking a whopping 62 photos.

According to NASA, unlike Curiosity, who is good at taking selfies, working in Perseverance is quite cumbersome. Therefore, 10 experts meticulously planned and executed it. First, they decide how to take pictures in advance. Although the shooting uses the Watson image sensor mounted on the perseverance, this camera was originally intended to capture detailed close-ups of rocks on the ground, and does not support a variety of shooting. Therefore, the research team finally made a shooting plan for assembling the finished image for a week in mind.

First, we considered the composition and location where perseverance and Ingenuity fit well, and considered the shooting angle for cutting and pasting the image most efficiently. . The sequence of actions created through this was sent as programming code to the perseverance and waited for the result.

In the dozens of photos sent by Perseverance, there were some vague parts such as dust on the camera lens, so Nasa organized the image and finally cleaned it to complete the painting. Two-shot selfies require a lot of work to realize with limited resources. Related information can be found here.
