Blizzard Entertainment has announced that BlizzCon, the gaming fan event scheduled to be held online in February 2022, has been discontinued.
Blizzard has been hosting BlizzCon, a game-related event for fans every November. However, the 2020 BlizzCon was canceled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, it has been announced that the 2021 BlizzCon will be held online in February 2022 and will be changed to a holding format. However, in this announcement, it was announced that BlizzCon Online would also be suspended.
As for the reason for the suspension, the statement said it believes that the energy needed to hold a show like this is now best supported by the team and directed towards developing their own games and experiences. Although not mentioned in the statement, Blizzard is on the verge of responding to a sexual harassment complaint that has been going on for months. In the midst of this, preparations for an event called BlizzCon take too much time.
Also, although BlizzCon, which was scheduled for February, will not be held, Blizzard is currently developing Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, which have high attention. However, release dates for both games have not yet been announced. Related information can be found here.
