Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.7 million copies in 2020 alone

CD Projekt Red announced that the game, Cyberpunk 2077, released in December last year, was full of bugs and glitches and reached 13.7 million copies in 2020, even though there was a refund response at one time. It is said that there were ten thousand dogs.

Total sales in 2020 amounted to 2.14 billion zloty, four times the previous year, recording a record high. The company paid a dividend of 5 zloty per share to return profits to shareholders. At the beginning of 2020, most of its sales were due to Cyberpunk 2077, but some also included the Witcher series.

One of the factors contributing to this level of success is that Cyberpunk 2077, which took a long time to develop, is an AAA work, which has raised high expectations. Of course, the overall demand for games increased significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also served as a positive factor.

However, the total dividend announced by CDPR is about half of its earnings. Therefore, future sales growth will need to return to the gamers who were considering purchasing by resuming the PlayStation Store after the Cyberpunk 2077 bug fix is finished.

CDPR also reveals some statistics about Cyberpunk 2077. 73% of total sales are digital downloads and 23% are package sales. 56% of sales are PC and Stadia, while PlayStation 4 accounts for 28% and Xbox One 17%. 38% of sales are from North America, 24% from Europe, and 20% from Asia. The total budget of the game is 1.2 billion zloty, and it is said that 530 development teams and 2,000 voice actors for 18 languages participated in game development.

CDPR is currently working hard on free DLC in addition to ongoing patches that fix Cyberpunk 2077 bugs and glitches. Also this year, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox X/S exclusive versions are expected to be released. Related information can be found here.
